With all cities for good eating, must come good places to drink as well. And Melbourne has that in spades! I feel like everytime I go, I find somewhere new to get a good cocktail (or beer, if that’s your fancy)!
BANGPOP
25 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf VIC 3006
I was initially drawn into to Bangpop and I just been shopping at the South Wharf DFO and needed a pick-me-up cocktail before heading onto the next place and they had some of the most unique looking cocktails. I ended up getting their Passionfruit Mojito – what could be better than Rum and Passionfruit?
Open 12pm – 10pm daily

VELVET BAR
Main Casino Floor, Crown Melbourne, 8 Whiteman Street, South Wharf VIC 3006
I don’t know if this is just me, but there’s something about Casino Bars that draw me in – not in a gambling sense, but that old world style and the movie setting where a woman is sitting at a bar drinking a Martini and peopler watching? Just me? Nevermind, but that’s exactly what I did. After wandering along the Yarra and admiring the city lights on the water, I had a smashing Espresso Martini at the Velvet Bar, whilst people watching. The Bar tenders were so lovely and welcoming, definite surprise!
Open 12pm – 5am daily
MELBOURNE PUBLIC
11 Dukes Walk, South Wharf VIC 3006
I’m guessing that you’re probably going to be seeing a theme here for bar locations – South Wharf. But it’s nothing biased – it just happens to be the best place for some casual drinks (in my opinion). Melbourne Public drew us in as they started Happy Hour the earliest along the strip – and how can you argue with a sign that says Really Happy Hour? From 4pm-7pm their Espresso Martini’s are $10….I’m pretty sure there were other specials, but for this trip, I was on a mission to drink as many Espresso Martinis as I could and I think I drowned maybe 5 in those 3 hours? They were damn good anyway! Plus the Bar food was pretty good as well!
Open 12pm – late daily
THE BOAT BUILDERS YARD
23 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf VIC 300
We ended up at the Boat Builders Yard for a last drink to cap off a night and it was the perfect setting – we got a table by overlooking the lights on the water, had a glass of wine and relaxed! Their wine list is quite good and the cocktails looked good as they were coming out.
Open 8am – 10pm daily
THE BOTTOM END
579 Little Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000
The Bottom End is a lively pub/eatery in the heart of the city, which we spend a couple of hours at before the Taylor Swift concert. The food was amazing – see my Melbourne Eats post – and the drinks were just as good! I started off with a French Martini – one of the best I’ve had! And then of course, we de-faulted back to our go-to of Espresso Martinis. These were particularly good as they had a caramel infusion in the vodka, so made it that little bit extra creamy <3
Open 7pm – late daily
