I never thought myself to be patriotic until I started travelling and I found that I missed certain things about home, one of which being the snacks I love. Now, don’t get me wrong – something I love about travelling is trying all the new food and whatnot, but I still love the familiarity of snack from Australia. I didn’t realise just how bad this was until I spent a year away from home on the ship.
And then I heard about the Down Under Box – randomly saw it pop on facebook to be honest! And their story resonated with me – it had started off when the founders were overseas and feeling homesick, wanting stuff from home. And so they’re launched this box you can order online. Since I first ordered mine, they have grown so much – and in the best ways. These days, they’re now providing free delivery to military addresses and giving you more customisation.
ANYWAY, the fun stuff – what I got. I chose the option of “Build You Own Box” as there were some definite items I wanted.

Some of my favourite items I got were mint slice, shapes, sachets of Milo, a Cherry Ripe and a handful of Fantales. Pretty much, all items that will travel well when needed.

What I loved was that they included a toy Kangaroo and an Australian flag. Once I devoured the snacks, I hung the flag up on the back of our door so it would give me that little bit of extra push I needed everyday till I could head home.
For an expat anywhere, this is such a great idea! Plus they have a flat rate international shipping rate as well 🙂
YOUR THOUGHTS
Have you had anything similar to this before? What has homesick-ness ever led you to doing when overseas?
